Off The Top With Vuhlandes

This very personal focus is steeped in his ethos of authenticity. He shoots what he shoots because he’s interested in capturing “real life,” and he wants people to “see what I see, [I want] people to see something authentic.” His focus on authenticity came about because he feels that a lot of photography is inauthentic. As he says, “[I want to] show people there is rainbows and sunshine, but also thunder and lightning.”

Despite improvement efforts in the heart of the city, Detroit’s surrounding suburbs have yet to see the benefit from these restorations; violence, drugs and poverty continue to run rampant in these rough neighborhoods, an unfortunate daily occurrence for these suburbs’ many residents.

When you think of Detroit what really comes to mind? Rather than 8 mile, Tee Grizzley, or Dex Osama? Does photography even spark your mind when Detroit is brought up into a conversation? Maybe not, so now we're here to recognize & prophesize the youngest & hardest working photographer who goes by the name of VUHLANDES.
